PATNA: Two people, including an arms supplier, were gunned down by armed miscreants following a verbal spat between two groups during a wedding ceremony at Cantt Road in Danapur, Patna, in the early hours of Saturday.
Both succumbed to their bullet injuries while being taken to the hospital.
The incident occurred around 1.30am when eight persons on four bikes arrived at the marriage hall in Mustafapur under the Khagaul police station area and opened indiscriminate fire.
The deceased, identified as Golden Singh, the groom’s cousin, sustained two bullet wounds to the head, while the groom’s brother-in-law, Sarvendra Kumar Singh, was shot twice in the chest. Both men, natives of Jamui district, died before reaching the hospital.
Police took custody of the bodies and sent them to Danapur sub-divisional hospital for postmortem. Six empty bullet shells were recovered from the banquet hall and a forensic team was called in to collect evidence from the spot.
Sunil Kumar Singh, SHO of Khagaul police station, said the marriage procession of Amit Kumar Singh alias Roshan, son of Tunnu Singh from Malaypur village in Jamui, arrived in Danapur on Friday night.

“During the dance, two groups from the groom’s side had a verbal spat in an inebriated state. One group left the marriage hall. After some time, the accused returned with their accomplices and opened indiscriminate fire, killing two people,” Singh said.
Singh added, “The police are scanning CCTV footage from the marriage hall and nearby areas to nab the miscreants. The accused have been identified and raids are on to arrest them.”
Vijay Shekhar, a relative of the groom, told the police that during the dance at the wedding, Vicky Yadav, Shubham and Rishabh Singh, who were also from the groom’s side, had an argument over something. “During the ‘jai-mala’ ritual, they returned with their friends and opened fire,” he said.
According to police, Golden Singh was arrested by Odisha police about four months ago in an arms smuggling case. An FIR was registered against him in Munger’s Mufassil police station and Kasim Bazar police station under the Arms Act. He was involved in the arms trade in Munger, Patna, Purnia and Odisha.
