Two men shot dead in Munger | Patna News – Times of India


Patna: Two persons, including a notorious criminal, were shot dead by motorcycle-borne criminals in Munger district on Saturday morning. The victims – Manjeet Mandal (35) and Chandan Kumar (30) – were sitting in a car outside a hotel in the Mufassil police station area of the district when the incident occurred. The police recovered 12 empty cartridges from the spot and are investigating the possibility of a gang war.Two shooters riding on a bike were involved in the murder.
According to police sources, Manjeet was a sharpshooter for Pawan Mandal, a notorious criminal of Munger. There are more than a dozen murder, extortion, loot and other criminal cases registered against Manjeet at Kasim Bazar and other police stations in the district.
“As per a statement given by hotel staff, Shankar, two people had come in a car and gave Rs 500 to him asking for pan masala. The staff brought the items and handed them over, and was heading back inside the hotel when other two men on a motorcycle started firing indiscriminately at those sitting in the car. The motorcyclists then fled towards the Shri Krishna Setu while continuing to fire in the air. Both criminals were carrying pistols in their hands,” police said.
Sadar SDPO Rajesh Kumar said both persons died on the spot.
“The deceased were residents of Shastri Nagar locality under Kasim Bazar police station in the district. Manjeet was a property dealer but had a criminal background with several cases of extortion, loot and murder registered against him at various police stations in the district. Chandan was driving the car. The background of Chandan is being investigated,” he added.
