Two held for stealing Rs 2.2 crore from SUV | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: A cabbie and earthmover driver were arrested for stealing more than Rs 2.2 crore from a real estate businessman’s SUV recently.
The arrested are Manjunath RS, cabbie and resident of Chikkalasandra, and his associate Krishnakumar, 38, resident of Naganayakanahalli and driver of an earthmover.
According to police, the two stole the money belonging to Sukumar, a resident of Banashankari III stage, between 9pm and 9.30pm on March 28.
Sukumar had sold four acres and 18 guntas of land in Attiguppe for Rs 2.2 crore. After completing the registration process on March 28 in Kanakapura of Ramanagar town, Sukumar was returning to the city with the money in an SUV (Toyota Innova Crysta) he had taken on rent from an online platform. He had hired Manjunath as the driver of the vehicle.
When they reached Uttarahalli Main Road, Sukumar asked Manjunath to stop in front of an ATM kiosk. When he returned, he did not find the SUV. He called Manjunath but his phone was switched off.
Sukumar approached police, stating Manjunath had escaped with the cash and the SUV he had hired. The police swung into action and managed to nab him and his associate on March 30. Manjunath had transferred the money to Krishnakumar’s car near KIMS hospital in the early hours of March 29. The police managed to recover Rs 2.2 crore from the duo and put them behind bars.
