Rourkela: Two police officials from Sector-3 police station were suspended on Monday for consuming alcohol while on duty and misconduct. Assistant sub-inspector Saroj Kumar Nayak and constable Duryodhan Bhainsal were found drinking in a vehicle near the Sector-2 Durga puja field on Saturday evening.Local residents spotted the officers around 9 pm consuming liquor in a four-wheeler and protested against their behaviour. When confronted, the officers allegedly threatened the locals, who then captured photos and videos of the incident. The evidence was widely shared on social media, prompting immediate action from authorities.Following complaints, a police team from Sector-3 station arrived at the scene and escorted both officers to the station. Subsequent BAC analyzer testing and medical examination confirmed alcohol consumption.DSP Jogeswar Panda of Zone-II submitted a detailed report to SP (Sundargarh) Pratyush Diwakar, who is currently in-charge Rourkela SP, on Sunday. Based on the report, Diwakar ordered the suspension of both officers on Monday. The suspended officers have been directed to report to the reserve police.
