Patna: Patna police arrested two constable aspirants during the physical test and document verification on Friday. They were accused of hiring dummy candidates to take the written test of the constable recruitment examination on their behalf, which was conducted by the Central Selection Board of Constables (CSBC) in August this year.
The fraud came to light on Friday when they turned up themselves at the Shaheed Rajendra Prasad Singh Govt High School, one of the centres for the physical test for constable recruitment. The officials found a fingerprint mismatch during the biometric attendance. They interrogated them and both confessed to their crime.
According to police, one candidate was identified as Ranjeet Kumar (21), a native of Aurangabad district, while the other was Sonu Kumar (29), who hails from Sasaram district.
Patna SSP Rajiv Mishra told this reporter on Saturday that Ranjeet and Sonu paid Rs 7 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively, for hiring dummy candidates.
Gardanibagh police station’s SHO Sanjeev Kumar said during interrogation, the two candidates disclosed that they made the ‘scholars’ (dummy candidates) sit in their place to help them clear the written test. “In return, they gave money to the scholars. The police are investigating the entire network of the scholar,” he said.
The CSBC had released the result of the constable recruitment examination on November 14, in which 1.07 lakh candidates were successful. The constable recruitment examination was held in six phases between August 7 and August 28, during which 17.87 lakh candidates had appeared.
The examination was conducted to fill 21,391 vacant posts of constables in Bihar Police, Bihar Special Armed Police, and other units. Document verification began from December 9.
