Two Bihar universities get Rs 100 crore grant under PM-USHA scheme | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: In a significant development, two state universities, Patna University (PU) and L N Mithila University (LNMU), have been sanctioned handsome grants of Rs 100 crore each under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) for their development as multiple-disciplinary education and research universities (MERUs).
The decision to sanction these grants was taken at the 3rd meeting of the PM-USHA project approval board. Communications to this effect were issued to the institutions of higher education on Monday.
Bihar State Higher Education Education Council (BSHEC) sources told this newspaper that three other state universities, B N Mandal University-Madhepura, Nalanda Open University-Patna and Jaya Prakash University-Chhapra, have been sanctioned Rs 20 crore each for their infrastructural development.
Furthermore, 15 colleges under different universities have been sanctioned Rs five crore each under the PM-USHA scheme for strengthening their academic and infrastructural facilities.
The colleges that benefited under the scheme include B N College-Patna, Araria College-Araria, PBS College-Banka, Gopeshwar College-Hathwa, DSM College-Jhahja, Koshi College-Khagaria, B N M College-Barhaiya, H S College-Udakishanganj, Govt Degree College-West Champaran, MSS College-Areraj, MHM College-Saharsa, SKR College-Barbigha, Govt Degree College-Shekhar, SLK College-Sitamarhi and DAV PG College-Siwan.
BSHEC’s academic advisor N K Agrawal said the Union govt would release 60% of the sanctioned grants and the remaining 40% would be shared by the state govt. “The institutions are supposed to utilise these grants within a couple of years,” he said.
