Rourkela: A speeding truck rammed into a roadside tea stall on NH-520 in Sundargarh district on Sunday evening, killing three persons, including the shop owner, a woman. Sources said more people could be trapped under the debris. Rescue operation was underway at the time of going to press.
Sources said the truck was coming from Koida area. The driver seemed to have lost control and crashed into the tea stall near Jamudih toll gate in Bonai sub-division. The truck overturned following the impact and tea stall was completely razed, killing the shop owner on the spot. Two other drivers, who were having tea at the time of the accident, also lost their lives. The truck driver initially managed to flee, but was later detained.
K Balang police reached the spot and an excavator was brought to clear the debris. “Operation is still on to know if anyone else is trapped under the debris,” said A K Behera, sub-inspector of K Balang police station.
