Truck Drivers: 7 Truck Drivers Dead in Jharsuguda Due to Suspected Heatstroke | Bhubaneswar News



Jharsuguda: Indrajit Singh (50), a resident of Mahuji under Chindoli police station limits of Uttar Pradesh, felt unwell while driving his truck. He thought a bit of rest and something cool to drink would be enough to shake off the discomfort and he could be on his way. He parked his vehicle near Baghmunda under Lakhanpur police station limits in the district. He drank lassi from a nearby shop and soon after started shivering.Locals called an ambulance and he was taken to Lakhanpur community health centre (CHC), where he passed away during treatment on Friday afternoon.
Truck driver Dilip Yadav (36), of Manikpur in Saran district of Bihar, suddenly stopped his vehicle near Singharpur, also under Lakhanpur police station limits. Locals noticed him vomiting and called an ambulance. Police took him to Lakhanpur CHC, where he died in the evening. They were among the seven truck drivers who died of suspected heatstroke in the district on Friday.
Besides Dilip, two more drivers from Bihar — Guddu Ray (38) of Thakurpur in Bhagalpur and Parameswar Yadav (53) of Gaya — were among the deceased. Besides, Rudradev Pandey (55) of Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, Rakesh Kumar Sandil (34) of Surajpur district in Chhattisgarh and Ayub Khan (57) of Koderma district in Jharkhand also succumbed to suspected heatstroke. “He (Rakesh Kumar) had parked his truck near Patrapali area under Kolabira police station limits. When he fell ill, locals shifted him to Kolabira CHC and after his health deteriorated, he was shifted to Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital where he died,”Kolabira IIC Prakash Karna said.
Vivekanada Pandey, son of Rudradev, said, “I received a call from a supervisor that my father is not well. I told them to admit my father to a hospital. When I reached the hospital, I came to know that he was dead.”
