Tributes Paid to Freedom Fighter Laxman Nayak on 125th Birth Anniversary in Berhampur | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: Several dignitaries, including commerce and transport minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, gathered at the Berhampur Circle Jail on Friday to pay floral tributes to freedom fighter Laxman Nayak on his 125th birth anniversary.
Nayak, the tribal freedom fighter from Malkangiri, was lodged in the circle jail during the freedom struggle and was hanged by the British regime on March 29, 1943.
The jail authorities have preserved four cells inside the 161-year-old jail where the tribal leader was lodged. Besides a portrait of Nayak, his literary works and letters from the jail term were preserved in the cells.
“These cells have been preserved to pay respect to the great leader who sacrificed his life for the country. The jail authorities have painted the walls of the cells for beautification. They do not keep any inmates in these four cells,” said DN Barik, senior superintendent of the jail. TNN
