Tribal man tries to poison students in Adilabad school, held | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Peeved at being ignored by his family, an unemployed 27-year-old tribal man allegedly sprinkled pesticide on utensils kept for preparing mid-day meals at a govt primary school in Adilabad district on Tuesday. The accused, Soyam Kistu, told police that he was upset with his family and did it to gain their attention.
The incident came to light when the principal of the school in Ichoda mandal’s Dharmapuri village noticed that the latch of the kitchen door broken and utensils sprinkled with chemicals.
In her police complaint, principal Pratibha said, “There was a pungent smell in the room and utensils were laced with an unknown chemical. Water in a bucket also had chemicals. I immediately called our cook Chandrakala. Some unknown persons sprinkled poison on utensils used for our mid-day meal and also mixed poison in the water with the intention to kill our students and me. Please initiate appropriate legal action.”
Adilabad SP Akhil Mahajan said police searched the school premises and found an empty pesticide bottle. “Our team rounded up three suspects and one of them, Kistu, an unemployed labourer living in the neighbourhood, confessed to committing the offence. He was arrested on Wednesday and remanded in judicial custody, the SP said.
During interrogation, Kistu said his family did not let him work or support him in anything, and he decided to do something sensational to get their attention.
“Kistu said he used the pesticide bought by his brother for their cotton field to poison the school students. He sprinkled it on utensils and mixed it in the water in a bucket. But he did not mix it in the overhead tank,” Ichoda CI Bheemesh said.
Based on the principal’s complaint, a case was registered under sections 329(4) (Punishment for house-trespass), 324(6) (Mischief committed after preparation made for causing death or hurt), 331(8) (All persons jointly concerned in lurking house-trespass or housebreaking by night punishable where death or grievous hurt caused by one of them), 332 (House-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with death) of the BNS and section 56 of FSSA.
