Tragic Hit-and-Run: 50-Year-Old Woman Killed on Chitradurga Highway |

BENGALURU: A 50-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday on National Highway 150A, which passes through Molakalmur taluk in Chitradurga district.
According to sources in the Chitradurga police, the incident occurred late Sunday evening when the woman, identified as Ananthamma, a native of Raayapura in Kudligi taluk of Vijayanagar district, was attempting to cross the highway with her relative and children.
CCTV footage retrieved from the scene revealed that Ananthamma and another woman carrying children had crossed the median and reached the second lane when a speeding car struck her.
Due to the impact, Ananthamma was thrown into the air and landed at the edge of the service road. She reportedly died on the spot due to severe head injuries and also sustained fractures in her leg.
Although passersby on the highway rushed to assist her, she had already succumbed to her injuries, according to the police. The speeding car fled the scene at high speed.
Rampura police sub-inspector Mahesh visited the site, and the police have registered a case. Efforts are underway to identify the car and the driver.
