Begusarai: Two people drowned in the Ganga at Malhipur Ghat under Sahebpurkamal police station in Begusarai district on Saturday. The victims were identified as Karan Raj (28) and Putul Devi (35), both residents of Malhipur village. Putul was Karan’s aunt. According to locals, the incident occurred when Putul Devi went to bathe in the river. During her bath, she ventured too deep into the water and began to drown. Seeing her struggle, Karan, who was at the ghat, jumped into the river to rescue her. He managed to grab hold of her but was unable to overcome the strong currents and both of them drowned. Sahebpurkamal police station SHO Rajeev Ranjan said the bodies were fished out from the river.
