Body of newborn girl found abandoned on Vashi creek bridge

Navi Mumbai: A newborn girl’s body, wrapped in a cloth, was found abandoned on the old Vashi creek bridge on Nov 16. The infant was one day old, informed the police.
A worker at the L&T company’s construction site of Thane Creek Bridge (TCB-3) spotted the infant abandoned on the old Vashi creek bridge between pillar numbers 19 and 20 around 9:45am and summoned the Vashi police. The cops rushed to the spot and took the infant to the NMMC hospital in Vashi, where the doctor declared her brought dead.
Acting on a complaint by the L&T company’s worker, identified as Nisu Kumar (32), the Vashi police registered an FIR against an unidentified accused. The accused was booked under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) section 91 for an act done with intent to prevent a child being born alive or to cause it to die after birth, and section 94 for concealment of a child’s birth by disposing of the child’s body in a secret manner.
The Vashi police are using technical expertise to identify the accused who abandoned the newborn on the bridge. The police suspect that the accused might have thrown the infant into the Vashi creek water while travelling in a vehicle along the Mumbai-Pune lane. However, the infant landed on the bridge instead of falling into the creek water and sustained severe injuries causing death.
