Tragic Death of Young Couple in Kandhamal Amid Domestic Dispute | Bhubaneswar News
Berhampur: A young couple allegedly died by suicide by hanging in their house at Budrukia under Kandhamal district’s Baliguda police station limits Wednesday night following a quarrel between them after the mobile phone of the woman was allegedly mortgaged by her husband to buy liquor.
The bodies of Pramod Mallick (28), a daily labourer, and his wife Puari Mallick (25) were recovered by police from their house on Thursday and sent for post-mortem at the sub-divisional hospital, Baliguda. The couple had an 11-month-old daughter, and they got married about two years ago.
While the woman was hanging from the ceiling of a room with its door closed, her husband was hanging in another room, said police. The door of the room where Pramod was hanging was open, while the room where his wife was hanging was bolted. The body of the woman was recovered by breaking the door in the presence of the magistrate and her family members, said Sushant Sahu, IIC, Baliguda police station.
Duryodhan Mallick, father of Pramod, who was staying separately, first came to know about the suicide when he went to their house in the morning, as his son did not come to go for work. He found his son hanging and his daughter-in-law also in another room with a closed door. He reported the incident to police. Sahu said they rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies, registered two separate unnatural death cases, and started an investigation.
Police said the preliminary inquiry revealed that the woman brought a mobile phone at the time of marriage. Her husband, however, used her phone frequently. He allegedly mortgaged the phone to consume liquor some days ago, which caused a quarrel.
After a heated argument, the woman went to her room and committed suicide. Her husband was trying to enter her room by breaking the door. When she did not open the door, he might have taken the extreme step and also died by suicide, police said.
