Tragic Accident Claims Life of Father Dropping Daughter at School in Rourkela | Bhubaneswar News
Rourkela: A 45-year-old man, who was on his way to drop his four-year-old daughter to school, was run over by a speeding trailer on Thursday morning.
Jogeswar Kalo, an attendant at Kirmira community health centre in Jharsuguda district, was riding his motorcycle with his wife Sarojini Sa (26) and daughter Shradanjali riding pillion. A speeding trailer hit them from behind at Sankara square near Parijat park, in Sundargarh district.
While Kalo was crushed to death, his wife and daughter escaped with injuries and were admitted to Sundargarh district headquarters hospital.
The incident triggered protests as locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the family. Concerns were raised over illegal parking and reckless driving in the area, demanding permanent deployment of traffic police.
Following negotiations, the Sundargarh Truck Owners’ Association agreed to provide Rs 50,000 as compensation, with an additional Rs 20,000 from the Red Cross.
“We have registered an accident case and are searching for the absconding driver,” said S Patra, assistant sub-inspector, Town police station. The police have seized both the vehicles and are investigating the case.
