BHUBANESWAR: Five persons from Odisha, including BJP leader Itishree Jena, her son and three relatives, are missing after their tourist vehicle fell into Teesta River between Chungthang and Munshithang in Sikkim on Thursday evening. A tragic accident occurred in Sikkim when a tourist vehicle carrying 11 people, including tourists from Odisha, plunged into the Teesta River.According to initial reports, one person was confirmed dead, while two others were rescued. Search and rescue operations are currently underway to locate the remaining passengers. Among the victims were members of a family from Jajpur district, Odisha, who were on a tourist visit to the northeastern state.Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep concern over the incident and immediately sprang into action. The Chief Minister established contact with the Sikkim govt to coordinate rescue efforts and ensure proper medical treatment for the survivors.“A dedicated team of officials from Odisha has been dispatched to Sikkim to oversee rescue operations and facilitate the safe return of affected passengers,” said a senior official from the chief minister’s office.The vehicle was carrying 10 tourists and a driver when the incident occurred. Local authorities, ITBP personnel, along with disaster response teams, are working tirelessly at the accident site.Further details about the incident and the identity of the victims are awaited as rescue operations continue.
