Mumbai: A 39-year-old traffic warden lost his life in the line of duty. The tragedy occurred Saturday as the warden with Mumbai traffic police attempted to stop a tempo that had entered Coastal Road, a restricted route.
The deceased has been identified as Isma Rafiq Wazir Sheikh. Gamdevi police registered an unnatural death case. Police said the tempo was seen heading from Coastal Road towards Tata Garden and then Worli. Sheikh pursued it on his scooter. While navigating a sharp curve on the Coastal Road’s bridge, he reportedly lost control of his two-wheeler, collided with a cement wall, and was flung off the bridge into the sea. Mumbai fire brigade managed to pull out the warden. He was rushed to KEM Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Gamdevi police have launched a detailed inquiry under BNSS 194 and are investigating the death and circumstances surrounding the tempo’s actions. Colleagues and officers from the traffic department mourned the loss of the dedicated officer.
