Tour of cultural treasures of Cuttack amazes NRIs

Cuttack: A group of NRIs were amazed while exploring the lesser-known cultural treasures of Cuttack during their visit Wednesday, as a part of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations.
The 52-member delegation toured several historical landmarks, including Barabati Fort and Netaji Birthplace Museum, discovering the city’s rich cultural heritage that has remained relatively unknown to many overseas Indians.
“I didn’t even know that Subhas Chandra Bose was born in Cuttack,” said Sharad Amin, a Texas resident of over 50 years. “Visiting his home was like visiting a temple. It’s an amazing experience to see his rooms and furniture first-hand,” he added, visibly moved by the experience at Bose’s ancestral home in Dargha Bazar.
The Maritime Museum at Jobra particularly impressed Srinivas, a visitor from Dubai. “I was amazed to see the rich maritime culture of the city. People are so cordial and the city is vibrant,” he said, praising the arrangements by local authorities.
For Amrita, a delegate from the US, Cuttack’s renowned silver filigree work was the main attraction. “I specifically came to purchase silver filigree jewellery for my grandchildren to showcase Odisha’s rich craft culture,” she said.
Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has made significant efforts to showcase the city’s heritage, including installing energy-efficient LED lighting at major tourist spots and expanding green spaces throughout.
“Special arrangements were made for the delegates, and we’re pleased they expressed happiness with the city’s hospitality,” said Cuttack mayor Subhash Singh.
