TNCC chief sends notice to party leader for ‘Dy CM’ posters

Chennai: As posters cropped up in parts of Chennai terming Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K Selvaperunthagai as deputy chief minister in 2026, the TNCC chief has sent notice seeking explanation from the Congress functionary who put up those posters.
The posters greeting Selvaperunthagai on his birthday were put up by TNCC state secretary A V M Sheriff in Chennai on Sunday.
“There will be a share of power in TN in 2026 and TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai will be the deputy CM,” the posters said.
The posters had the words ‘deputy chief minister, 2026′ written in bold letters next to a life-size photograph of Selvaperunthagai.
Selvaperunthagai responded to the poster with a notice to Sheriff, seeking a written explanation in 15 days.
Selvaperunthagai said in the notice that there were several “non-secular, evil forces hovering like dark clouds” trying to destroy the INDIA front.
“Under these circumstances, I strongly condemn your posters, which look like an effort to cause confusion within the INDIA bloc and destroy its unity,” Selvaperunthagai said in his notice.
He said that Sheriff’s actions were against the rules and ethics of the party and were indecent.
Selvaperunthagai also added that, as he announced, the party was observing a weeklong tribute to senior leader Kumari Ananthan, who passed away recently, and that he had asked the members not to celebrate his birthday in view of it.
Selvaperunthagai said the next course of action against the Sheriff will be taken after consultations with the party high command.
