Tiger Attack: Calf killed in suspected tiger attack in Ganjam | Bhubaneswar News



Berhampur: In a suspected tiger attack, a calf was killed at Dumakumpa village under Ghumusar North forest division in Ganjam district on Monday night. Forest officials recovered the carcass of the calf and buried it after postmortem. With this, the suspected tiger has killed at least 16 cattle, including calves, in the division in last four months.
According to sources, a wild animal, suspected to be a tiger, dragged the calf before fleeing into the forest when the people raised an alarm.
Villagers suspect it to be the Royal Bengal Tiger. Panic has gripped the villagers after the fresh attack.
DFO, Ghumusar North division, Himansu Sekhar Mohanty said forest officials rushed to the spot to collect the pugmarks of animals. The pugmarks are to be analyzed to ascertain the wild animal that attacked the calf. He said the compensation would be provided to the calf owner after completing all procedures.
He said the forest deprtment would install 35 camera traps to capture the picture of the animal. Four teams have been formed by involving 20 personnel to track the animal, while one of the teams was creating awareness among villagers not to venture into the forest alone.
