Thrilling Trekking Experience at Deomali Foothills During Parab Festival 2024 | Bhubaneswar News
Koraput: A 6.5-kilometre trail from Putsil to the foothills of Deomali, state’s highest peak, was abuzz with excitement on Saturday as hundreds of trekkers took part in a competition organised during the annual Parab-2024 festival.
The scenic route, blending misty paths with rugged stone tracks, offered participants a mix of challenge and beauty. The competition included categories for men, women, seniors and juniors. Seasoned trekkers assisted newcomers, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork along the trail.
Koraput collector Keerthi Vasan V highlighted the event’s dual purpose of promoting adventure sports and inspiring a commitment to fitness. “The trekking competition was organised to motivate youths for adventure sports with a message to stay fit,” he said, adding that plans are underway to further develop the trail and surrounding areas to position Deomali as a premier destination for adventure tourism.
Subrat Naik, participating for the first time, said, “It was a memorable moment as the cool breeze pierced my body during trekking.”
Fellow trekker Siddharth Chhotray echoed the sentiment, saying, “I was unsure whether to participate, but once I began, it felt effortless. I never imagined trekking could be so captivating.”
While most participants reached the summit, some faced difficulties. Manju Naik, who couldn’t complete the climb, appreciated the event’s appeal. “Although I could not reach the peak, I enjoyed watching others ascend. Improving the infrastructure could help attract more tourists to the place,” said Manju.
