Three persons, two minors arrested for multiple burglaries in Jeypore
Koraput: Jeypore Town police on Thursday arrested three persons and two minors involved in multiple burglaries across the town. The arrests come as a relief for law enforcement, which had faced criticism over the rise in robberies in recent times.
The arrested persons have been identified as Bijaya Beniya alias Rinku Beniya (23), Kanhu Muduli (19), and G. Satyanarayana Patra (26). Their involvement was uncovered during a probe into a theft at a tractor showroom on Feb 17.
Police sources said unidentified persons broke into a tractor showroom at Hatapada, Jeypore, and stole a safety locker containing Rs 2.5 lakh and valuable land documents.
During the probe, police traced the suspects and raided Rinku’s home in Hatapada leading to his arrest. Upon sustained interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime along with Kanhu and two minors, said SP (Koraput) Rohit Verma.
Further investigation revealed that the gang had been involved in a series of burglaries at a marble showroom, a chocolate agency, a chaff mill, a grocery store, and a bike showroom in the town. The stolen items included Rs 92,000 worth of chocolates, smartwatches, cash, and electronic goods.
Based on the suspects’ statements and with assistance from the fire department, we recovered the stolen iron cash box from a canal near Gandhi Chowk after an extensive six-hour search, said SDPO (Jeypore) Ankit Verma. Also, Rs 50,000 , a printer, a cash counting machine, a mobile phone, smartwatches, and other stolen goods were recovered from them, he added.
According to IIC Jeypore Town police station Iswar Tandi, Patra regularly bought stolen goods from the gang, leading to his arrest. He has been produced in court.
