Three dead, three injured after car overturns and hits tanker in Chembur – Times of India
MUMBAI: Three men died, and three others were injured in an accident after the car driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn and collide with a stationary tanker in the RCF area of Chembur on Sunday afternoon.
Those killed in the accident were identified as Harichandan Das, 23, Pramod Prasad, 35, and Hussain Shaikh, 40. The injured include the driver Javed Khan, 30, Manoj Karantam, 30, and Sanjay Singh, 39.
Police have collected the car driver’s blood samples and will send them to the forensic science laboratory to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
A police officer stated that the deceased and injured, all residents of Laxmi Nagar and neighboring areas in Chembur, were friends. Most of them worked as truck and auto-rickshaw drivers, while Khan, the owner of the car, was a tourist driver. As it was a Sunday and they had the day off, they decided to go for a drive in the area with their friends. The incident occurred at 1:50 pM as they were traveling from Gavanpada to the Vashinaka area in Chembur.
“The car driver lost control, it toppled twice, and collided with a stationary tanker,” police said. All of them were rushed to Rajawadi and Shatabdi Hospitals, where three were declared dead. “Police personnel have gone to the hospital and are conducting an investigation,” said a police source.
A source said that the car was allegedly overspeeding, and when the driver pressed the brakes, it overturned and then collided with the tanker. Locals gathered near the scene, and police also arrived. The locals and police sent the injured to the hospitals.
Police are in the process of registering an FIR against the car driver for rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence.
