Mumbai: A key witness in the extortion case against gangster Ejaz Lakdawala has received a threat call from a person claiming to be from the CBI. The caller, identified as ‘Vijay Sharma,’ warned the witness of harm to his family. The witness, who was provided with police security cover since 2020, said that the police have registered only an NC. The witness has alleged that he received the call on November 5 from a number with a Pakistani code (+92). “When I went to Bandra police to lodge the complaint, they just took my statement and wrote an NC. I want the crime branch to investigate as I fear for my life,” he told TOI. The witness had lodged an extortion complaint against Lakdawala’s daughter Sonia. The police arrested her and later Lakadawala from Patna. Lakdawala, a former member of the Chhota Rajan gang, who was wanted by the Mumbai police in around 25 offences, including two murders, was on the run since he jumped bail in 1999 and was arrested in 2020.
