Thieves drill hole in jewellery store wall, flee with ornaments worth Rs 40L



Kendrapada: Thieves drilled a hole in the wall of a jewellery showroom in Jagatsinghpur town on Tuesday night and fled with gold and silver items worth around Rs 40 lakh. The theft was discovered on Wednesday morning when owner Himanshu Bhusan Sahoo opened his store.
According to Sahoo, whose jewellery store is located at Bada Bazaar area, he had closed his shop around 9.30 pm on Tuesday and went home.When he opened the showroom on Wednesday, he found a hole in the back wall. On checking the items in the shop, he found gold and silver ornaments missing.
“As per preliminary investigation, the accused allegedly drilled a hole in the back wall of the showroom and carried out the robbery. The crime scene was examined by the forensic team, and a case has been registered against unknown persons. The accused have removed the hard disk of the showroom’s CCTV. We are checking CCTV footage in nearby areas for clues. Further investigation is on,” said Pravas Chandra Sahoo, the IIC of Jagatsinghpur town police station.
The officer felt those who knew the area well and had visited the shop a few times could have carried out the robbery. “Local gangs could also be involved,” the officer added.
