CHENNAI: Passengers bound for Kanyakumari will have more direct train options from Chennai over the next month, as several Nagercoil-bound trains are being extended to Kanyakumari due to temporary engineering work at Nagercoil yard.Starting June 22, Southern Railway will extend key superfast trains, including the Tambaram–Nagercoil and Chennai Central–Nagercoil services, to Kanyakumari. Trains nos 22657, 12667 and 12689 from Chennai will stop briefly at Nagercoil before proceeding to Kanyakumari. The return services — Train Nos 22658, 12668 and 12690– will begin their journey from Kanyakumari instead of Nagercoil, with adjusted departure times to maintain schedule alignment.However, commuters relying on the budget Antyodaya Express train will need to take note. From June 22 to July 22, Tambaram–Nagercoil Antyodaya (Train No. 20691) will be short-terminated at Tirunelveli, skipping Nagercoil and Kanyakumari. Its return service (Train No. 20692) will also start from Tirunelveli instead of Nagercoil.
