Therapeutic beading: A creative initiative for individuals with disabilities | Bengaluru News

Aashir’s in collaboration with Seva-In-Action has introduced what’s touted to be India’s “first therapeutic beading program for individuals with intellectual disabilities”. “Through beading, participants have not only developed fine motor skills and concentration but have also found a medium for self-expression, confidence-building, and social connection,” said a representative from the organisation. They emphasised that the process of stringing beads into intricate patterns has served as more than just an artistic endeavor.
“Beading has been a tool for cognitive stimulation and emotional well-being. Each bead threaded represents patience, perseverance, and the joy of creation, fostering a sense of accomplishment in every participant,” they stated. The initiative “highlighted the broader significance of such initiatives and underscores the importance of accessible therapeutic interventions that blend art with skill-building, ensuring that individuals with intellectual disabilities receive the support they need to thrive. The success of this program paves the way for more such creative therapies, promoting a society that values inclusivity, self-sufficiency, and dignity for all,” they added
The concluding ceremony of the program was held on March 1. Many dignitaries including Sri Das Suryavamshi, Karnataka State Commissioner for the Office of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and Kannada actor Anu Prabhakar were present.
