Thakur accuses Cong of disrespecting Ambedkar’s legacy | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: BJP MP and former Union minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Monday accused the Congress of repeatedly disrespecting Dr BR Ambedkar and violating the constitutional principles for political gains.
Speaking at a press conference here during the “Samvidhan Gourab Abhiyan” (Constitution Glory Campaign), the BJP leader detailed the historical instances of alleged discrimination against the architect of India’s Constitution.
According to Thakur, the Congress disregard for Ambedkar began during his lifetime and continued after his death, citing the denial of permission for his cremation in Delhi among other conspiracies.
Thakur highlighted how the Congress allegedly conspired to defeat Ambedkar in various elections, including the 1952 Lok Sabha polls where former Prime Minister Nehru personally campaigned against him.
“The Congress has no moral right to speak about Dr Babasaheb’s legacy,” stated Thakur, pointing out that Ambedkar resigned from Nehru’s cabinet in 1951 over disagreements regarding Kashmir policies, Dalit neglect, and opposition to the Hindu Code Bill.
The state unit of the Congress hit back, saying if Nehru had disrespect for Ambedkar, how was he appointed law minister in his cabinet and how was he given the extremely important job of framing the Constitution.
“The BJP, for mere political gain, is trying to use Dr Ambedkar’s legacy. They are repeatedly trying to mislead the people of the country. At such a point, an educated man like Thakur is making the allegation based on their party propaganda, which is unfortunate,” Congress leader Biswaranjan Mohanty said.
