Bhubaneswar: As classes resumed in schools across Odisha after the summer vacation, the Primary School Teachers’ Association has alleged that many students are yet to receive textbooks.
Till last year, only students of govt-run schools used to get free textbooks, but from the current academic session students of private Odia medium schools have also been provided free textbooks up to Class VIII.The decision was taken under the 5T initiative of the previous BJD govt.
“Three months have passed since the beginning of the academic session and many children are yet to receive books. We request the govt to look into the issue and provide textbooks to schools at the earliest,” said Brahmananda Moharana, president of the association.
Conducting a review of the department, school and mass education minister Nityananda Gond instructed officials to ensure that study materials reach every block on time in the coming academic year. ”I will look into the issue as to why students have not received their textbooks yet and will resolve the issue at the earliest,” he said.
