Temp dips, light rain forecast in MMR today

Mumbai: Amid overcast skies, IMD has issued a light to moderate rain alert for Mumbai and Palghar on Thursday. Thane is expected to see isolated thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and light to moderate rainfall, it said.
The weather bureau had initially put out a ‘yellow’ alert for Thursday, indicating thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rain, but downgraded it to ‘green’.
The Santacruz observatory on Wednesday logged a slight drop in the maximum temperature in a day from 37.7°C to 36.9°C. While its reading was 3.8°C above normal, the Colaba station recorded a high of 34.2°C, 1.8°C above normal, up from 33.5°C the previous day.
In the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Wednesday, the Colaba observatory recorded no rain, while Santacruz saw ‘trace’ rainfall. Trace rain refers to less than 0.1mm of rainfall and is too small to be measured accurately by standard rain gauges. It indicates there was some precipitation, such as drizzle, but not enough to register a measurable quantity.
Weather officials said lower-level winds over the region were mostly northwesterly to westerly. “A weak trough is extending from Lakshadweep to Konkan at 0.9km above the sea level. A cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra has weakened. A trough from south Chhattisgarh to Madhya Maharashtra, passing through Vidarbha and Marathwada has also weakened,” said IMD.
