NEW DELHI: The rescue operations at the partially collapsed SLBC tunnel have been stepped up with additional workforce and machinery deployment on Sunday.
Officials indicate that repairs to the damaged conveyor belt are scheduled for completion by Monday, which will facilitate more efficient debris clearance from the tunnel.

Officials confirmed that the silt removal and dewatering operations are proceeding without interruption, with enhanced resources at the identified locations.
A major development occurred on Saturday when rescuers successfully located four of the eight trapped individuals inside the tunnel.
The National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) scientists employed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology, which detected certain “anomalies” within the tunnel, providing essential information for the rescue efforts.
Official sources indicate that chief minister A Revanth Reddy is scheduled to visit the site on Sunday evening to conduct a review meeting regarding the rescue operations.
State excise minister Jupally Krishna Rao indicated that the remaining four individuals are likely trapped underneath the tunnel boring machine, suggesting a potentially lengthy rescue process.
When questioned about the survival prospects of the four located individuals, the minister expressed pessimistic expectations.
The state Disaster Management department released figures on Saturday night, confirming the involvement of 18 organisations, 54 officials and 703 personnel in the rescue operation.
The incident, which occurred on February 22, has left eight individuals – comprising engineers and labourers – trapped beneath the collapsed roof of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, with intensive rescue efforts ongoing.
The trapped individuals are Manoj Kumar (UP), Sri Niwas (UP), Sunny Singh (J&K), Gurpreet Singh (Punjab) and Sandeep Sahu, Jegta Xess, Santosh Sahu and Anuj Sahu, all from Jharkhand.
