Hyderabad: Granting relief to a farmer from Mahabubabad district, the Telangana high court observed that the allegations of extortion made against him were not supported by the evidence on record.Gadipally Srisailam, along with several others, had occupied unallotted govt-sponsored 2BHK flats at Chinna Gudur in the district. They were booked under charges of extortion, which involves obtaining property or benefits through threats of death, grievous harm, or other forms of coercion, under section 308(5) and other provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Justice J Sreenivas Rao, while disposing of the case, directed Srisailam—who was the petitioner before the high court—to appear before the police and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. The court also instructed the police to adhere strictly to Supreme Court guidelines and follow the procedure laid down under the BNS. If Srisailam fails to comply with the investigation requirements, appropriate action must be taken as per the law. When the assistant govt pleader opposed the relief, stating that the case was still under investigation and that there were specific allegations against Srisailam, the court noted that the main accused in the case had already been arrested and that Srisailam did not have any criminal background. The court further directed that Srisailam must remain available to the police whenever required and provide all necessary information and documents for the investigation. The case originated from an incident in April 2025, when a group of villagers occupied the 2BHK flats constructed four years earlier but still awaiting official allocation. The villagers, citing an earlier high court order, took possession of the flats. However, since no final order had been issued by the high court, the local tahsildar filed a complaint, prompting police to begin their probe.
