Telangana CEO orders probe after complaint on voter ID discrepancies

Hyderabad: Telangana chief electoral officer (CEO) C Sudharshan Reddy has initiated a probe into alleged discrepancies in voter ID details following a complaint.
The complaint filed by one N Supriya Raj alleged manipulation of the date of birth (DOB) on official documents in Alwal. The matter was forwarded to the district election officer of Medchal-Malkajgiri for further investigation.
The complaint alleged widespread voter ID violations, citing a case of one Sridhar Reddy, a resident of Alwal constituency in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, of altering his DOB across official records. The complainant alleged that the original DOB was recorded as March 27, 1977, in govt records, including his passport, election voter ID and Aadhaar card. However, within five days, his DOB was modified to March 27, 1981, using newly issued documents.
CEO Sudharshan said the election registration officer (ERO) would conduct an enquiry, adding that such cases were isolated and there was no evidence to suggest a widespread issue of similar discrepancies.
“The complaint has been sent to the official handling electors’ registration. Action will be taken based on the enquiry by the ERO,” the CEO said.
