Rourkela: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old neighbour on New Year’s Eve in Sundargarh district. The accused is on the run, while the survivor was produced before the child welfare committee (CWC) on Saturday.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 11 pm on Dec 31, when the accused jumped over the boundary wall and entered the girl’s room. After allegedly committing the crime, he fled the scene.
The teen informed her parents about the incident, following which a police complaint was filed on Jan 2. Police have registered a rape case and launched a manhunt for the accused.
“A team has been dispatched to Jharkhand to trace and apprehend the accused,” said S Naik, inspector.
The girl underwent medical examination on Friday and was subsequently transferred to Sakhi, a one-stop centre. The case is being investigated under relevant sections of the IPC and Pocso Act.
