Teen dies in road accident, 2 others injured

Rourkela: A 17-year-old student was killed and two others were injured when their motorcycle collided with a pickup van near Government ITI, here on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased, Piyush Kumar Sahu, a resident of Basanti Colony, had recently appeared for his Plus II exam. The accident occurred around 1:40 pm on the stretch between Government ITI and reserve police gate.
Police sources said three youths were travelling on the motorcycle when it collided with a speeding van. The van driver and the bike rider fled.
Raghunathpalli police, upon receiving information, went to the spot and transported the deceased and one injured youth to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH). Both vehicles were seized from the accident site. The third youth, who had initially fled, later admitted himself to RGH for treatment.
“We have registered a case and investigation is underway,” said R Swain, inspector in-charge, Raghunathpalli police station. Police are currently searching for the absconding van driver. Post-mortem examination of the deceased will be conducted on Wednesday.
