Mumbai: The introduction of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana for women in the state has caused a concern among govt school teachers, as many of them have been assigned the task of gathering information about the beneficiaries. This additional responsibility comes amidst ongoing protests by teachers against non-academic duties, including election work.In Navi Mumbai, civic teachers have been asked to conduct door-to-door surveys to identify those eligible for the scheme, which offers a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 to women aged 21 to 65. The survey of beneficiaries must be completed by Aug 31, and centers have been established at anganwadis, where both teachers and helpers are responsible for identifying the women beneficiaries. In the Mira-Bhayander region, 31 help desks have been set up, and teachers working as booth-level officers (BLOs) have been tasked with ensuring the online registration of beneficiaries. “In addition to helping fill physical forms, the women have to be registered on the Narishakti Doot App,” said a teacher.
