A 25-year-old Mumbai manager, Manav Sharma, committed suicide in Agra, alleging marital harassment. He recorded a distressing video before his death, expressing loneliness and pleading for awareness of men’s struggles. Police are investigating the case after his family’s complaint.

AGRA: In a case similar to Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash’s suicide, a 25-year-old man who worked as a manager with TCS in Mumbai, Manav Sharma, ended his life in Agra after alleged harassment by his wife. Before hanging himself on February 24, he recorded a 6-minute and 57-second video expressing distress over his marriage.
In the video, Manav apologises to his parents and pleads for awareness of men’s struggles, stating, “Please, someone should talk about men. They become very lonely.”
Manav, a resident of Defense Colony, worked in Mumbai. His father, retired Air Force officer Narendra Sharma, reported that Manav married on January 30, 2024.
After an initially peaceful period, conflicts arose when his wife allegedly threatened false accusations and expressed interest in living with her boyfriend.
On February 23, Manav and his wife returned from Mumbai. Later, when he dropped her at her maternal home, he was reportedly threatened by her family. The next morning, he took his own life.
Despite the emotional video, police initially received no complaint. However, after a WhatsApp complaint from the family on Thursday night, police officials confirmed that a case is being registered and an investigation is ongoing.
‘Wife rejects all accusations’
Sharma’s wife, Nikita Sharma, rejected all the accusations and alleged that her husband had been struggling with alcohol addiction and had self-harmed several times before.
“He used to drink excessively and had attempted suicide multiple times. I saved him many times. He also assaulted me after drinking. I had informed my in-laws several times, but they ignored my pleas, saying that it was a matter between a husband and a wife and they cannot do much in it,” Nikita said.
“On that day, I reached out to my in-laws and Manav’s parents that he may take the extreme step. His sister was also informed about it by me. People also need to listen to my side of the story,” Nikita added.
