CHENNAI: TP Solar, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), plans to double the capacity of its solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.
Delivering a virtual address, Tata Group chairperson N Chandrasekaran said it has huge opportunities for expansion and the capacity will be doubled to more than 8 gigawatts (GW) in the coming days. However, he did not mention the timeline for expansion.
Chandrasekaran was speaking at the inauguration of the facility by Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday.
TP Solar plant located at Gangaikondan in Tirunelveli district is the largest in the country at a single location with 4.3 GW capacity. The company has invested Rs 4,300 crore on it.
Dr Praveer Sinha, chief executive officer (CEO) and MD of Tata Power, said the plant was set up in a record time of two years and 80% of the employees are local women.
