Saraswati’s death anniv observed in Kandhamal

Berhampur: Death anniversary of senior VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati was observed at Jalespeta and Chakapada ashrams in Kandhamal district on Monday amid tight security. Jalespeta ashramites, local people, leaders of VHP, RSS and ministers Rabi Nayak and Suraj Suryavanshi took part in the day-long programme to pay tribute to Saraswati on his 16th death anniversary.
Ashramites took out a procession in the village. The ashrams at Jalespeta and Chakapada were set up by Saraswati prior to his death on Aug 23, 2008.
While paying tribute to Saraswati, ministers highlighted his contribution in spreading education among girls in tribal-dominated Kandhamal district.
Security was increased across the district with deployment of 22 platoons of police. Combing operation was conducted by BSF, CRPF, SOG and DVF, said J N Pankaj, inspector general of police (southern range).
