Mumbai: An email threatening to bomb the car of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde was received by Goregaon and J J Marg police stations on Thursday. An FIR was registered by Goregaon police late Thursday.
A suspect was brought in for questioning by the police, but at the time of going to press, no formal arrest was made.
The email sent to both the police stations had the same content and was written in Marathi.
Police sources said such emails have been sent to multiple recipients.
Teams from local police stations as well as the crime branch are working on the case and are trying to track down the sender.
Police suspect the email might be a hoax but are not taking chances and are deploying all resources to find out the sender’s identity.
An FIR has been registered at Goregaon police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 351 (3) and 351 (4) for criminal intimidation and section 353 (2) for public mischief. Provisions of the Information Technology Act have also been invoked.
“Today a mail threatening to bomb the car of DCM Eknath Shinde has been received in Goregaon and J J Marg police stations. Further enquiry and needful is being done,” DCP (Zone 1) Pravin Mundhe said to mediapersons on Thursday. tnn
