BENGALURU: A 30-year-old businessman in Bengaluru has alleged that he was physically assaulted by a grocery delivery agent outside his home in Judges Colony, Basaveshwaranagar.

The incident occurred on May 21 during a dispute over an order placed through the Zepto app. The complainant, Shashank S, said the delivery boy, identified as Vishnuvardhan, arrived at his house around 1.50pm to deliver groceries.

A disagreement reportedly broke out between the delivery agent and Shashank’s sister-in-law, who had gone to collect the order at the gate. The dispute was over a mismatch in the delivery address. Shashank said he intervened after hearing the argument escalate. He claimed the delivery agent verbally abused him and then assaulted him, punching him repeatedly in the face and head before fleeing. Shashank later sought medical attention and was informed he had suffered a skull fracture. He said doctors may consider surgery if the injury does not heal within a week. The businessman shared details of the incident on Instagram along with CCTV footage and called on the delivery platform to take responsibility. In response, Zepto stated: “We regret any inconvenience caused. Professional conduct is essential to us, we’ll make sure this is addressed.” Police confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. An investigation is under way.
