Police to ramp up security for PM’s Subhadra scheme launch

Bhubaneswar: Anticipating a large turnout of women during the official launch of Subhadra Yojana by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Janata Maidan on Sept 17, the city police have decided to deploy additional female officers to ensure the smooth conduct of the grand event.
The day also marks Modi’s birthday. On Thursday, commissioner of police, Sanjeeb Panda and his deputy, Prateek Singh, held a preparatory meeting to develop a security plan for Modi’s visit.
Subsequently, the director general of police, Y B Khurania, along with Panda and Singh, inspected the venue and reviewed the initial security arrangements.
“PM Modi will be visiting Bhubaneswar on Sept 17. We are making extensive preparations at Janata Maidan. The route from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Janata Maidan will be barricaded. The area is being sanitised daily. Arrangements for parking, traffic and crowd control are also being made,” Panda said.
He added that since most of the participants will be women, authorities will mobilise more female officers and staff. Official sources said that, besides launching the Subhadra scheme, the prime minister is also expected to lay the foundation stones for several other welfare projects at Janata Maidan.
Subhadra Yojana aims to empower women by providing them financial assistance. Recently, the govt issued guidelines stipulating that Rs 10,000 will be provided annually to each beneficiary in two equal instalments over five years.
Each beneficiary will receive Rs 5,000 on Rakhi Purnima and on International Women’s Day. Over the five years, each eligible woman will receive a total of Rs 50,000.
