Bhubaneswar: Sambalpur Town police on Saturday arrested district sub-registrar Surya Narayan Samal and his accomplice Chandra Prasad Dunguria for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent land registration scheme in Budharaja area in Sambalpur.
They allegedly facilitated illegal sale of land belonging to a deceased person by falsely representing the owner as alive. The duo allegedly processed land registration using forged documents, bypassing legal procedures and without the knowledge of the deceased owner’s family.
The fraud came to light when the deceased’s family discovered the unauthorized transaction and filed a complaint with the Town police station. A subsequent investigation revealed the sub-registrar’s direct involvement in the fraudulent deal.
