Students of classes IX, X will also get midday meal: CM | Bhubaneswar News



Bhubaneswar: Students of classes IX and X will soon be served midday meals, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Tuesday. Addressing the centenary celebration of Ranihat High School in Cuttack, Majhi said the proposal has already been passed in the state cabinet and will be implemented soon.
“This is quite unfair as students up to Class VIII get food while students of upper classes in the same school do not get midday meal. Our govt has decided to provide midday meals to students of classes IX and X as well,” Majhi said.
Under the midday meal scheme, currently, 44.5 lakh students of primary and upper primary schools up to Class VIII are provided the meal. With this announcement, an additional 10 lakh students of will be included in the scheme.
In Dec last year, the govt increased the cost of midday meal from Rs 5.90 to Rs 7.64 per meal/student in primary school and from Rs 8.82 to Rs 10.94 per meal/student of upper primary school.
Majhi also announced that Ranihat High School will be declared a heritage school and a grant of Rs 4 crore will be provided for the development of the school.
