Stolen Baby: ‘Stolen baby’ rescued; Asha worker among two women detained | Bhubaneswar News

Balasore: A newborn boy, who was allegedly stolen from Balasore district headquarters hospital on Sunday, was rescued by the police on Monday and handed over to his mother. Police have detained an Asha worker and another woman for questioning in this regard.
The two were identified as Sandhyarani Patra, the Asha worker who is from Kullachhad under Baliapal police station, and Sandya Patra from Santia under Jaleswar police station in Balasore.
According to reports, Anita Dandapata (25), of Kullachhad village under Baliapal block, gave birth to the boy on Saturday and on Sunday, the two women, pretending to be nurses, came to the maternity ward and took the newborn from Anita under the pretext of vaccinating him.
The Asha worker handed the child back after some time to gain Anita and her family’s confidence. Later, when no one was around, the other woman took the child away. When the baby was not returned to the mother, the family filed a complaint at the local police station. Police examined the hospital’s CCTV footage and found that the two women stole the baby and subsequently, rescued the newborn from Jaleswar area in Balasore.
Balasore SP Sagarika Nath said, “Police successfully traced and rescued the baby within 12 hours of the case being registered. “
Both the Asha worker and the woman have been detained for further investigation.”
