STF busts fake note racket in Balangir, two arrested | Bhubaneswar News

Balangir: The special task force (STF) of the crime branch uncovered a counterfeit note racket in Titilagarh leading to the arrest of two persons and seizure of fake notes worth Rs 49,000.
The suspects, Mohammad Sabir (45) of Raghunathpara and Netrananda Raut (44) from Siker, Titilagarh, were arrested following a raid on their residences on April 9. Officials recovered 98 high-quality counterfeit Indian notes concealed in a bag, along with three mobile phones and other incriminating materials.
“The fake notes are sophisticated and could easily pass for genuine currency. We believe this operation has connections to a larger network operating beyond state borders,” deputy SP Rasmi Ranjan Pattnaik told reporters.
Initial investigation reveals that Sabir, who has no legitimate source of income, allegedly partnered with Raut, a local tent house owner, to distribute counterfeit notes in the area. The duo is suspected to have links with two persons, Babu and Akhtar, who operate from outside the state. “Our primary focus is to trace both the source and distribution channels of these fake notes,” Pattnaik added.
