State to provide solar power to 1,235 agri feeders | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) has planned to energise 1,235 agricultural/mixed feeders, connected to 843 power substations, with solar power under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM Kusum) Scheme.
The PM Kusum Yojana was launched in March 2019 with an aim to increase the income of farmers and de-dieselize agricultural sector.
State’s energy minister Bijender Prasad Yadav on Sunday said that the state government’s focus is to empower farmers and promote sustainable energy solutions. “Energizing the agricultural feeders with solar power under the PM Kusum Yojana is a step towards achieving both objectives. We encourage farmers to participate actively and be benefited from this initiative,” Yadav said.
Sanjeev Hans, chairman-cum-managing director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, said that the PM Kususm Yojana presents a significant opportunity for farmers to increase their income while contributing to the state’s green energy goals. “This initiative will not only provide financial benefits to farmers but also enhance the state’s renewable energy capacity,” Hans said.
Explaining the scheme, a BSPGCL official told TOI that farmers or firms can install solar energy plants within a 5-km radius of the agricultural feeders based on the load present in them. “The initiative allows any commercial company to participate alone or in a consortium of up to three members. Each bidder must have a minimum net worth of Rs 1.05 crore per mega watt. However, farmers, groups of farmers, cooperatives, panchayats, farmer-producer organisations, water user associations and self-help groups can participate without any technical or financial criteria,” the BSPGCL official told TOI.
The official added under this scheme, the Union ministry of new and renewable energy will provide financial assistance of Rs 1.05 crore per MW, and Bihar government will provide Rs 45 lakh per MW. Successful bidders must construct the solar plant within 15 months and connect it to the power substation via an 11 kV line. The distribution company will enter into a power purchase agreement for 25 years,” the official said.
