Standard Chartered Bank plans Odisha expansion

Bhubaneswar: Shifting focus to tier-II cities, Standard Chartered Bank, has planned to increase its footprint in Odisha.Announcing the expansion plan, Nitin Chengappa, managing director and head of affluent banking and distribution network of the Standard Chartered Bank on Thursday said they have set their sights on driving the growth in ten major markets in India, including Bhubaneswar.
Nitin, who was on a visit to the city, said their focus will be on affluent customers since their number is on a rise in cities like Bhubaneswar. “Bhubaneswar is one of the 10 markets identified as part of the focus on leverage opportunities in wealth and affluent segment. Bhubaneswar in particular and Odisha in general has been on a path of major economic development,” the MD said. He said in Bhubaneswar or in Odisha, the industries are on a growth path, startups are coming up giving rise to employment opportunities.
“This makes the markets like Bhubaneswar a vibrant one and it will grow further in the future,” he said. He said though they are not planning to increase their branches, their digital footprint will remain the highest priority for reaching out to people. The bank currently has only one physical branch in Bhubaneswar.
“Our relationship managers have been given high-level training. We are investing in our back-end section to ensure safety and security of people. We will give them a varied option of investing over and above the existing traditional ones like SIP or mutual funds,” Nitin said.
