Spanish adoptee returns to city in search of her biological parents | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Spanish resident Sneha Das is on a quest to understand her early life and discover why her biological parents, who are from Bhubaneswar, abandoned her and her younger brother Somu in their infancy.
Sneha, 21, and Somu, 19, were fortunate to find a new home with Spanish couple Gema Vidal and Juan Jose Enrique from Zaragoza, who adopted them when they were aged 6 and 4, respectively. Currently pursuing her studies in Spain, Sneha has arrived here with Gema to locate her birth parents.
“Although I long contemplated finding my biological parents, I hesitated to share these thoughts with my adoptive family. Upon finally expressing my wishes to Gema and Juan, they readily offered their support. When I meet my parents, I want to ask them why they abandoned Somu and I?” Sneha said.
Sneha and Gema arrived in th city on Dec 18. The only information about her birth parents came from orphanage records which named them as Santosh and Banalata Das. No contact information or address was mentioned. On Saturday, they sought assistance from commissioner of police S Dev Datta Singh to locate Santosh and Banalata. Singh assured them of full support. He assigned a woman inspector to locate the two.
The Spanish couple, both psychologists, first visited Odisha in July 2009 and finalised the adoption in Feb 2010. The siblings are officially registered as Sneha Enrique Vidal and Somu Enrique Vidal. Somu now studies logistics and transportation management in Spain.
Gema said Sneha and Somu have two elder siblings living with their birth parents. In 2005, the parents left Sneha and Somu in their dwelling at Nayapalli’s Bhoi Sahi slum before leaving with their other children. Locals and police found the abandoned siblings and transferred them to the orphanage.
Retired Odia lecturer Sneha Sudha Misra learned of their search when the mother-daughter duo reached the city and availed her homestay facility in Laxmisagar. She accompanied them to meet Singh and provided local assistance.
“We will leave for Spain from Delhi on Tuesday. I request the police to help my daughter find her birth parents. If anyone finds any clue about Santosh and Banalata, they may contact the police or Sneha Sudha,” Gema said.
