BHUBANESWAR: The Puri district administration has initiated an investigation after discovering that the elder brother of former cricketer Sourav Ganguly and his family members survived a boat overturning incident during water sports in the Puri sea on Saturday evening. Lifeguards safely rescued them from the water. The incident came to light when video footage of the boat capsize emerged on Monday. “We have started an investigation to find out the circumstances leading to the mishap,” said Puri District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain. Snehasish Ganguly said, “I am still in trauma. It was a very lucky escape. We are thankful to the lifeguards who came to our rescue.” His wife, Arpita, recalled the horrific experience and said, “For a moment, we thought it was the end. Lord Jagannath saved us. The government should determine whether the boat operator had a valid licence. Tourist safety must be a priority in water sports activities.”
